PM Lee: We are all in this together

The Parliament has passed the White Paper for 6.9m population in 2030 with all 77 PAP MPs voting yea. And Hsien Loong proudly said, 'We are all in this together.' Do the people have a say or a choice not to be part of this madness?

I think Hsien Loong forgot to complete his sentence, 'We are all in this together, all 77 of us.' Did he know that the opposition MPs and the NMPs +NCMPs are not in this together? Did he know that the majority of the citizens are not in this together with his 77 MPs? According to the mini poll conducted in this blog, 97% were not together with him. And this can be confirmed by the number of people that have indicated that they will be attending the protest rally on 16 Feb at Hong Lim Park.

The attendance in this rally is probably one of the most important event in the history of this island. The cramming of additional 2m people into the island in the last 10 years went on sneakily without the consent of the people. The influx of foreigners were allowed in by the Govt and causing a lot of hardship, dislocation and disruption on the lives of the citizens. High cost of living, high property prices, high COEs, congestion, competition for space and services and straining of the infrastructure, transport systems and facilities, are getting on the nerves of the people. The patience of an otherwise very kiasu, kiasi and kiachenghu people has reached a BTH state, beh tahan liao.

And Hsien Loong said 'We are all in this together.' Really? This statement is going to rile more angry protestors. We are all NOT in this together. Wait for the voices of the people at the protest rally to be heard.

Gilbert Goh, the organiser of the protest is overwhelmed. He thought it would be the usual 200 crowd. Now the feedback is not even 2000 but many times more. The news of a massive turnout has wetted the interests of the international media and all the big guys will be there to report on this event.

The Singapore Spring has finally arrived, prompted or initiated by courtesy of the Govt through the highly unpopular White Paper.

I think it's important to identify the absent Members of Parliament.
We need to know what their priorities are.

With apologies in advance, I think the following MPs were absent;

1. Lee Kuan Yew, PAP MP (absent)
2. Inderjit Singh PAP MP (absent)
3. Speaker of the House PAP MP (present but cannot vote)

4. Eugene Tan NCMP (present but abstain)

Did I miss anybody?
Or get my facts wrong?

A real Spring does not require a permit.

Hi plumber, welcome to the blog. Will see you there.

The suggestion to invite the other opposition parties to speak is a good idea. This is a national issue and transcends all political party lines. It is an issue for all Singaporeans. We are all in this together.

Do remain calm and control at the Speaker Corner.
The crowd could be in the thousands. So participants must not be agitated by anyone nor provoke anyone.
For the good of everybody, keep cool and maintain self discipline.
Let us have an enjoyable gathering this Lunar New Year.
祝大家新年快乐

"You are at the heart of all of our policies."
PM Lee Hsien Loong

Really?
Why not you face us outside of parliament.

Venue: Hong Lim Park.
Date: Sat 16 Feb
Time: 4.30 pm.

Dear RB
Just read GG blog, someone (presumably new citizen) wanted to attend to show support to the cause. This is our first largest gathering, while the new citizens are not to be blamed, agitators causing trouble will mar the event. Pls dont bet on the Intl media making PAP cautious.
Lets have the tru blue, the born and bred Singaporeans gathering first. Malaysians quite OK but Ang Mohs, FT Indians and Pinoys will just stuck out like a sore thumb. Not safe for them what with the sentiments and Matilah also on the prowl.
What do you think.

Provocateurs can be planted, therefore in any big gathering of strangers, there is always the need to be cool, careful and be in control.

Anonymous said...

Yes, do not lose your cool.

By the way, can the Prime Minister be with us at Speakers Corner?

He will surely make everyone very happy. Does the Prime Minister wants his people to be happy?

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

The organisers must have special team to monitor and control the crowd especially provocateurs or agitators. There must be several teams at the park to move in to isolate and move them away and prevent them from causing mischiefs.

Happy Lunar New Year to everyone.

there probably hundred of thousands in number , but nothing to worry , because they are just ants that can be trampled, after all they are just digit and replaceable.

What do you think ?

Chin leng, I understand that tkl is giving a speech but he is not a crowd puller. Other speakers like tcb or Nicole Seah will be better.

Alamak people, please lah. Singapore is a constitutional republic which means that PARLIAMENT ultimately decides on policy, not the angry mob, unruly rabble or suka-suka ad hoc group of you and your kopi tiam kakis.

>> Do the people have a say or a choice not to be part of this madness?

OF COURSE THEY DO. The people have spoken, but the voices against the policy is so overwhelming you hardly heard the voice (like mine) who support OPEN BORDERS and the free-wheeling nature of markets and human activity best left as unregulated as possible by government.

Every MP is aware of the controversy of this White Paper, and aware of the views of their constituents. However being in a republic, the MP is not DUTY BOUND to automatically accede to the "wishes and whims" of his electorate. He has to vote with his/ her conscience -- taking into account the feedback he gets from his electorate.

The unruly rabble want everything, yet they know NOTHING about how to go about getting it. They want the trains to run like clockwork, they want free edu for their kids and free health care, and cheap houses...fucking hell...everything flying in the face of reason.

>> The Singapore Spring has finally arrived

WTF? You serious? My balls are laughing!

Please lah, get off the grass or perhaps you've been drinking too much XO this New Year ;-)

In a month or two this whole thing will be more or less forgotten by most -- except for a few angry posts on the (smelly shit sewer) TRE and so on.

>> The news of a massive turnout has wetted the interests of the international media and all the big guys will be there to report on this event.

Of course. They would. It is newsworthy. They're into running their very profitable businesses. They're not there from "the goodness of their hearts' or some weird "solidarity" with Singaporeans.

>> 'We are all in this together.' Really? This statement is going to rile more angry protestors.

What a stupid, dumb, asshole thing to say. He had best said nothing. Zip the lip. Shut the fuck up. LESS IS MORE.

Even though I take the OPPOSITE view, and welcome 6.9 mil (and more) population, I FULLY SUPPORT THE PROTEST against the White Paper.

If you give a shit about your cuntree and think that the government you deserve are WRONG, you'd be a passive asshole if you didn't show up and make express your point of view COLLECTIVELY.

Frankly, my suspicious DNA, and my understanding of mass manipulation thinks that The People are being played. Form a political-strategy standpoint, it is good to garner some sort of "solidarity" where people come together for common interests. This makes horse-trading a lot easier later on. If I were the govt, I would be very pleased if the people put their individual differences aside and came together for a common cause. Usually Singaporeans are politically apathetic, and PASSIVE. Now the tipping point has arrived and the mob is "hot" -- being placed under the pump with side issues like job security, toe-to-toe competition, rising costs of living, the reality of CPF as a Ponzi Tax…there are numerous issues to make people agitated, scared and angry. A smart politician knows that any sort of "crisis" is an opportunity for political action.

Sometimes you need to piss people off, so that they'll get off their butts and actually do something for themselves and their cuntree (as opposed to being passive, complaining and expecting the government to fix it).

MAKE IT LOUD AND STRONG! Give the international press something worth reporting, and be an example to the rest of the world. Nevermind the possibility that you're being played. Protest anyway!

Good luck!

@anon 632:

Don't worry lah. Matilah will not be "on the prowl". He'll be away in Arse-trailer at that time.

Anyway, as I've said -- I don't agree with you, but give the protest my full support.

You shouldn't be divisive here and speak of "exclusivity" of locally born and breds. That's silly. You should welcome all the support you can garner -- FTs, Malaysians, Pinoys, new citizens and PR's.

The whole idea of something like this is to put your differences aside and focus as a united entity on the cause.

Tip for the day: Everybody should have their cameras ready with immediate YouTube upload. Why? You want to spot and video/ photograph the slightest hint of any agent provocateurs present there to fuck up a peaceful protest. Don't worry, they will be there.

Also its good to film the cops and any plain clothes government agents who will no doubt be there filming you.

You have to watch the watchman watching you. I'm serious.

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

Hi anon 4:31, that 79% confirm going to Hong Lim and 11% not sure but could still go. At this point there will be at least 80% of the respondents attending. This is a very positive sign.

The Most Annoying Claim made by the Folks In White wirh regard the White Paper on the 6.9 Million Population for 2030, is their repeated assertions that they care for the lower and lowest income people. What an audacity!

IMO, I would like to keep "patriotism" out of the discussion altogether. "patriotism" is a weasel word which is claimed by BOTH SIDES of the issue -- and often turns the discussion into a "he says she says" miasma of bullshit rhetoric and politic-speak.

E.G. Side A: "It is not unpatriotic to criticize the establishment. We are the true patriots because we care for and wish to save our cuntree!"

Side B: "It is unpatriotic to criticize and not render full support of the establishment. WWe are the true patriots because we care for and wish to save our cuntree!"

As you can see, you cannot tell which side are the "good guys" and "bad guys", as both sides claim "patriotism".

Hi Gerald,

I am definitely not a patriot, nor will I ever claim to be one or even put it on my "bucket list" of "things to do before I die".

To me Singapore is a Hotel. I have resident visas in other cuntrees. I even used to have one for the US when I was living and working in Silicon Valley.

After serving NS, I've lived overseas for over 30 years; but maintain my Singapore citizenship status because Singapore doesn't allow it's citizens multiple citizenships. Therefore I can very fucking LEGALLY treat Singapore like a Hotel, and it is an awesome Hotel which I can enjoy at my leisure, and come and go as my mood directs.

I have no interest whatsoever in "saving" the cuntree or its people. When I used to criticise the PAP in the 80's and 90's locals would abuse me and get very nasty, and personal. Then I had no axe to grind as I was already living overseas and I just wanted to warn people of the potential dangers in allow SO MUCH POWER to accrue to a select bunch of "untouchable elites".

You live in the US, you know about the US Constitution. You'll thus no doubt be be aware that Jefferson, Franklin, Madison et al were constantly worried about absolute power accruing to a select bunch of folks that they attempted to write the Constitution in a way that made it very difficult for elites to usurp power from "We The People". (Bill of Rights by James Madison).

as far as I am concerned the Local Singaporeans are getting their just deserts by having themselves voluntarily elected oppressors, and to rub salt into their wounds -- are TAXED to keep the all-powerful oppressors in office -- forever and ever, Amen :-)

Now I say Hidup-Lah to you named by yourself as Mati-Lah !Your Comments are fully appreciated and its true since the break-up of Malaysia with Singapore booted out the Singapore City State has become just an Economic Corporate Machine and I think MM LKY has lost his balls and panache on Malaysia because during his days in England and the malayan Forum Days there weren't any talk of Singapore on its own !Singaporeans nowadays will have to make Democracy work by supporting the Opposition Party in the main now the Founder David Marshall's Workers Party !At least Singapore isn't like North Korea or PRC and not India either ,certainly better much better than malaysia with over 50+% of GDP debts liabilities !I don't think even the Workers Party mind you being like a Hotel Guest in Singapore as Citizen you have paid /pay your fair dues!USA /Canada with a British Received Laws Style Written Constitutions also have problems of efficient results oriented governance !And Plutocracy more than Democracy sometimes rule !

Actually Singapore today, by per capita accounting, is the richest place on the planet.

Hotel life isn't bad -- that is a gross understatement. Hotel life is freaking AWESOME. The best in the world is available here: food, fine beverages, cars, yachts, furnishings for your home, hi tech gadgets, delectable female company, clothes, financial services -- like off shore banking -- to protect assets from seizures by western governments :-) I've lived in Manhattan, Florida and the Bay area. No doubt about it, the US has many fantastic places to be too. But at the moment, Singapore trumps it all...for me anyway.

Plus I pay so little tax. :-))
