Julia Gillard: We will support your job and put Aussie workers first

‘We will support your job and put Aussie workers first…I don’t want to hear stories of Australians missing out on a job because a 457 visa has been misused.’ Julia Gillard, PM Australia.

This is the kind of commitment by a PM and Govt to its citizens. It is always citizens first. And the Australian workers union leaders are pressuring the Govt to stop the exploitation by foreigners to work in Australia at the expense of Australians.

Compare these to the situation here? What is the position of the Govt and the Union and also the Singaporeans affected, losing their jobs to foreigners?

In singapore, we starts with GDP first, then others like citizenship, core values, social policies, housing, health and transport policies adapted to the GDP goal.

So sorry, your privileges as citizen count for nothing hor

Oz is a nation.

What is Singapore? It has always exist as a transit point and is it capable of nationhood or not?

The people managing the little rock are but big time businessmen and women, can they be compared to a national leader of a nation the size of a continent?

Time for some sense of proportion.

Anon 10:42, how can you say that? Talking about sense of proportion, our leaders have so much dignity, highest paid in the world which is equivalent to their talents.

What is the OZ PM or leaders compare to the calibre of our leaders?

You don't pray pray and anyhow compare ok.

Oz is a temporal dumping ground for convicts. Up till now, it still have union jack on her flag, and theoretically Oz is still lorded by Windsor family. In this aspect, we look more like a nation than Oz.

Precisely because we are a rock that we need to control immigration. A empty continent like Oz want to kick out migrants, a full red dot want to take in more. I do not get your fucking logic, you idiot.

There is 2 schools of thoughts?

One school of thought, we should get cheaper and cheaper foreign workers to improve our margins and profits?

Another school of thought we should model our country to South Korea, Israel, Sweden and Denmark etc., to develops our local SME help them to expand to oversea, make better and improve their products and services, help them to market their products and services ourseas, appoint international consultant to train the SME bosses and their local workers, to less rely on foreign companies, so that local worker can get better wages to close the income gaps?

Many small countries can run their economy better then large countries as above, small size is easier to manage then big size?

But I agree many Singaporean intellects are stupid especially those idiots in IPC, like fertility expert Dr Yap Mui Teng. She is impliciting propose to send Singapore's fertility to zero. Really a fat ugly bitch. Her face shows that she has shit in her mind.

And also I firmly believe that any intellect who go along with PAP is wicked, greedy and spineless. They has no moral values. They are whore.

As usual, politicians talk shit. Julia will probably go down in history as Australia's WORST Prime Minister.

I'd rather listen to Gina -- she's not one of the world's richest women for being an idiot or a slacker. This is one serious achieving individual.

Australia's labour costs are too high. Taxes are too high. There is too much regulation, which translates into added costs for business.

In the last 10 or so years, they've streamlined business procedures and dropped the taxes, but it's still high. And Australia needs LESS regulation. Sure, it's been "good times" for nearly 20 years, but the government has also been borrowing heavily, and we have a huge baby-boomer set retiring, which means someone has to pay for these motherfuckers -- who as living longer and sapping more and more of the public resources.

The Australian population has to increase, and it has been. They have to hire foreign labour, thankfully, they've also been doing that.

For Singaporeans who want a "change", consider getting an Australian 457 visa. If you are willing to go to the mines, you can earn 10 grand a month, or more.

Didn't our PM also said some thing like putting singaporean first, too? He must have crossed his fingers at his back while he said he would put singaporean first. I do not trust politician whether aussie or sinkie when they said they put the people's interest first. Truth is, they always put themselves first!

Gillard is in ELECTION MODE. And she's way down in the polls. I think she'll probably lose.

Anyway, that's why all the "big talk" from her. Try to get as many of the swing votes as possible.

Fact is, the Aust government are handing out 457 visas. We have a huge influx of Europeans (as Europe is fucked): Irish, especially. Ireland is fucked -- no jobs, lots of debt. Also coming in now are US Iraq war vets, young, strong, well-trained can endure the tough mining conditions; their own cuntry -- the USA -- is also fucked and many people no job.

When your cuntree is doing well, that will place a demand for more labour. You have no choice but to import. And yes, some locals are going to be tossed aside.

Welcome to capitalism. It's based on meritocracy. You can do the job better than the rest of the batch in the eyes of the boss, then you'll be selected. That's how its always been.

Used the profits from the massive profits the casinos & $260 billions foreign reserves and indirect taxes, to market the local SME worldwide?

Engage international marketing/medias experts for branding our local SME, so as to less rely on the 2 millions cheap foreign workers in Singapore?

So that local workers can enljoy higher wages and to reduce the wages gaps and work life balance?

Politicians are there to make the rich ruling class richer and to make false promises to people so they will not rebel against the ruling class and chop their heads off. They are all self serving and only want to milk the system to make a lot of monies for themselves so they can retire comofortably. They are all evil but the worst is the rich ruling class who consumes the world 90% resources. The democracy system is actually flawed. To contra it, always vote the less powerful party and the less evil party. Always vote the opposition so the powers will change hands and not able to extend evil claws so deep in.

Solution is simple - just kick out the foreigners. The infrastructure for 4m was already built. The singapore core is only 3m. There will be plenty of housing, jobs, schools, mrts, buses, hospitals for the core.

Anonymous said...

I still do not see why need to spend so much money to accomodate another 1.5m. The amount to be spent seems much more than the amount spent on the 3m core. Why not invest those monies and just maintain the core? Why need budget surplus when breakeven is already good enough? Why need to pay PM so much when paying him 200k is good enough? Why stay in a 500m2 house when 125m2 is good enough? Why want to destroy this world by overconsuming? Why want to be so greedy? Enough is good enough.

Once you have a government as such a BIG PLAYER in the market -- and from all sides: the production side, the taxation side, the logistics side, the financial side, the construction and building side...etc

...then it is no more "capitalism" in the true sense. We still use the word "capitalism" to mean the way things are, which is unjust, nepotistic, plutocratic...when in fact we should be using another word like "corporatism", "statism", "21 century feudalism", "fascism", but I think you will only confuse the masses who are already reeling from their high debt levels, uncertain employment future and other modern day worries.

If the government is a player in your market, and the moral hazard being that they are TOO BIG TO FAIL, and TOO HIP FOR JAIL, then your market and economy is "rosak" already, no longer "free".

Plus the government has got its own bank -- the central bank MAS -- as their buddy in the economy, and in every deal.

If you know this, there is no point in complaining about it -- or even spend more than 3 minutes being pissed off. IMO, the Singapore government is so predictable. And they are very clear on what they're planing to do. Which is great. That means you can plan too -- to take evasive action, protective action or to get on the same side of the trade as the government, and hopefully make some dough for yourself.

No more free market. It's more like a JUNGLE. You have to know how to take cover to avoid being food to some species, but you have to know how to strike deadly and fast so you can eat too.

"Comfort CEO’s pay was $1.43m?"
If the question raised in 2002 was
whether a business that was originally founded as a social enterprise paying its CEO $1.43 million a year was excessive,
perhaps the obvious question now may be to ask
how much the CEOs of the 12 NTUC social enterprises are paid today?

Seah Chiang Nee's Saturday column

[Singapore's elite speaks out]

"THE govt is facing increasing pressure over some of its ill-conceived policies,
not only from its citizens –
but increasingly from the elite as well.

This reflects the changing face of politics.

So far, the party has handled it with a one-step-forward, two-steps-backward manner,
giving in on a few cases but hitting back on others.

The elite critics are people who hail directly or indirectly from the PAP govt or its institutions.

Traditionally, these people were overly reticent about revealing true political thoughts,
let alone criticising the govt.

This was especially during the rule of Lee Kuan Yew.

Now with the aid of the Internet and under a generally more relaxed regime of PM Lee Hsien Loong,
a small number is speaking up alongside the new public mood.

No, you're absolutely wrong. I am definitely, and proudly working class.

The only difference is that I work for myself -- my boss the the market, I'm a gun for hire, completely out of the system of the 9-5 work-a-day in a job you hate for a boss who is an asshole. In your 9-5 job, there are people who are lazy, political, who do little work but manage to "freeload" off the rest of the staff. They get paid, sometimes promoted for being cunning amoral bastards.

For me, if I don't work during projects, the shit hits the fan and I don't get paid...or worse still: lose money, or get sued.

I also have no cuntree. To me Singapore is a hotel. Australia is a beach resort. Thailand is a titty bar, Malaysia and Indonesia are great "makan" places, and great stopovers to bang some deliciously hot, sexy minahs.

The world should be everyone's oyster.

For those companies that think the new policies on hiring foreigners are too restrictive and wanted to move to a freer and better place, I say go, if you can find one that is better than Singapore.

This is very true. The govt still has plenty of room to "tarek harga" (i.e. negotiate from a point of strength), but instead the cave in to the "demands" of the corporate classes too easily without demanding some form of equal value in exchange.

@anon 1035:

I have a family. After 3 marriages in nearly to 40 years, the family tends to be quite large...to put it mildly. And I tell them all the same things I write:

1. Never trust any government

2. Learn how to survive and thrive without a government, in fact learn how to keep government interference in your life to a minimum.

3. The government will always try to tax away your hard-won productivity whether you are rich or poor

4. Defend yourself by having at least 3 places to go -- one for work, one to live, one for citizenship

5. Refuse to be a slave to any authority, ideology or dogma

6. Get educated by acquiring MARKETABLE, real world skills

7. Turn whatever work you do into a BUSINESS -- for e.g. if you push around a mop and broom as a minimum wage cleaner, aspire to form and run your own cleaning company.

8. Run your life as a business

9. Form capital, and secure it. Then use your capital wisely -- to form more capital. (as opposed to consuming it by surrendering to your emotions/ ego/ the desire to "impress" others)

10. Conquer, and moderate yourself -- your ego, your irrationality, your desire for "short cuts", your laziness, etc

11. Stay as fit and healthy as you can for as long as you can. Eat properly, get quality sleep, exercise, and moderate/ stop your intake of mind-altering "substances".

12. Learn critical thinking (skepticism) skills -- no, they don't teach this in schools, because they never want you to question authority

13. Question EVERYTHING -- especially your own assumptions, beliefs, thinking, motivations. It is natural to fool yourself. That is the "default" condition.

14. Adopt and embrace meritocracy. Whether you believe it or not, the world loves WINNERS. This is not ideological, this is a simple fact of human nature.

15. Human nature is quirky. Embrace it. Find out the "quirks" and make sure they don't consume you. No, you won't score 100% on this one. You will fuck up, no doubt about this

16. Make the best out of any situation -- do what you can to the BEST of your ability, wherever you are, with whatever you have.

17. Life is fragile and uncertain. Never take it for granted

...and so on.

The point is this, no one is going to teach your kids how to survive and WIN in the real world. Most parents/ guardians will toe the line of the government and society by telling their children "You should respect authority and obey them at all times". That's BULLSHIT. That's where the critical thinking/ skepticism comes in -- you evaluate all claims on a case-by-case basis -- without DOGMA or IDEOLOGY, but with reason and "reality" as we know it.

>> the capitalism system favours the LGBTs.

I'm confuse by this statement, and don't know what you mean, so I'll guess.

Singapore is NOT a capitalist system. It is more communist/ totalitarian. The aspects of capitalism the system encompasses is a back-stop against total lack of freedom and complete state control of everything. Consider it a small blessing. IMO, you should GRAB as much freedom as you can and make the most of it.

Singapore has too many issues with LGBT's. That 337 law has got to go -- into the dustbin of history where all the "bad laws" go. You might not agree with LGBTs and their "lifestyle", but they are human beings nonetheless and thus are entitled to their freedom, and for them to live their lives with DIGNITY -- just like the rest of us.
