Free travel on MRT on week days

A one year trial for free travel on the MRT will commence on 24 June. Everyone travelling early on the train will definitely love it. It is so unbelieveable that things can be had for free in this no free lunch City. I just hope that it will not cause more problems than solving problems. Keep the fingers crossed that the trains will not be jam packed by foreigner workers early in the morning just for the free ride.

Commuters must exit from 16 stations in town to enjoy the free ride. The stations are,

‘Bugis, Chinatown, City Hall, Clarke Quay, Dhoby Ghaut, Lavender, Orchard, Outram Park, Raffles Place, Somerset, Tanjong Pagar, Bayfront, Bras Basah, Esplanade, Marina Bay and Promenade…Commuters who exit at these stations between 7.45am and 8am will be given a discount of up to 50 cents off their train fare. The Government will be funding this one-year trial.

Big deal to solve the morning squash on the trains.

The right solution is to deport all those foreign trash crowding the island.

RB, how come you now have sexy Thais on your site. Surely, you don't need these sleaze.

Me worries very much more for commuters when the free ride starts.

Okay, me suspects that the frequent problems of our train system are due to overloading.

Free ride will exacerbate overloading and thus more breakdowns will occur.

Caveat: I maybe wrong in my assertion.

redbean,
did you notice the coincidence between boston bombing and sudden change to free ride by the pap ?

Why so coincidence occurs. suddenly the clowns immediately use this measurement as to disperse the crowding issue of MRT ?

don't you think that they are caught off guard and implement out this measurement (never before happen) to avoid been question by the public that more people will die if such bombing ever occurs in overcrowded transport ?

never see this government so efficient when it comes to FREE.

What do you think ?

Why so unfair? Only MRT. How about bus, taxi?

Can the government ERP top up the cash card for early driver?

Got goodies, everyone share. Right or not?

"Why so unfair? Only MRT. How about bus, taxi?"

Because bus and taxi is not as crowded, that is why. this is a pragmatic government.

It shud be bus ride free and train ride remains status quo.
When bus breaks down, less commuters affected.

don't be surprised that it may be a excuse by the government to jack up the transport fare. this act of free may be temporary, but the fare is hiked, and when they stop this act with ShittyTimes given nonsense that it no longer work, the transport fare will not go down.

we know how this wayang government works, didn't we ? Why should we believe them this time ?

Knowing the kiasu Singaporean mentality, there will be an even bigger squash before 7.45am to take the free rides. It is just shifting the crush to an earlier time. Talk about kicking the can down the road.

Good move. Here in Perth we've had free travel in within the metro area for years already. However the fares to travel to and from the city areas are astronomical.

No such thing as "free". Someone pays for it sooner or later.

Don't be too happy with the free rides. Since when do our G gives away things one?Sure must pay some how one!
It is just a sweetener to increase fares on peak hours.

The government is paying for the bills, and the $ originally come from you and me...

Nothing is free under this ruling party. Conyou and party will con more than 50cents from all other timings. Whatever they introduced, have to take with a grain of salt.

Nothing is ever free, this ruling party or that ruling party. I give you something "free", the other person or the next few persons got to pay a little bit more, or get a little bit less. Simple as that. When is anything free? Even redbean doesn't write for free.

/// did the ERP solve our congestion??? ///

You actually believed them when they said it is to solve congestion??? It is just a jackpot machine for them to collect money from the long suffering motorists. Can't you hear the "ka-ching, ka-ching, ka-ching" each time cars pass under the gantry?

That's the spirit. Compliments are often fake -- like the salesman trying to 'angkat' you so he can rip your wallet, or the Thai bar girls who greet you "Hello han-sum man!" so you think you look like Channing Tatum when in actuality your looks are comparable to Lee Kuan Yews wrinkled anus, as it strains to push out a constipated blood-speckled turd.

Hostility, on the other hand, is sincere, honest and from the heart.

Thank you for your honesty. Now go get fucked.

When the PAP gives you something free, always remember to take it with a ladle of salt. The final result that is going to come out of this exercise is not going to be palatable. Someone has to pay for it.

Oh yes the Government said that it is footing the bill. Those who live here knows better. Free lunch is never on their menu.
