Tharman’s call on repaying the debt to the pioneering generations

Be grateful, all the successful million dollar salary employees in govt service or in the private sector, the politicians included. What you are enjoying today is made possible by the hard work and labour of the pioneering generations who planted the seed to grow this tree. They paid the price without enjoying much of their labour. Many lived a life of poverty and died alone with little material comfort.

It is time for the successful to repay this debt to the pioneers of this modern and prosperous city. There are many things the Govt can do to acknowledge the contributions of the pioneers who were poorly paid and worked in very harsh conditions to make what is possible today. Their woes were not much different form the foreign workers today. But they were the foundations, the steps, the stones that we trampled on to scale greater heights.

For some of the pioneers, the little savings they have are fast eroding and wiped away by the high inflation and high cost of living. And with the longer lifespan, many will be in serious financial troubles before they call it a day. Many were also victims of the early retirement policies that took them out of the economic equation too early when they could continue to work to pay for another 30 or 40 years of existence. The situation will only get worse if the Govt does not give a helping hand.

Below are some of the things that our millionaire politicians and the huge reserves created from the pioneers can do.

1. Govt should come out with a comprehensive medicare insurance with the govt footing the premiums.
2. Seniors should enjoy free outpatient care in polyclinics
3. Senior ex NS men should be given a pension to compensate for the miserable $90 NS allowance they received in those pioneering days. The womenfolk should not be forgotten.
4. The older PMETs are also from the pioneering generations. All Singaporean PMETs qualified in their respective fields and professions should be given first priority to be employed unless their health fails them. The govt should implement this policy immediately in the ministries, stats boards and GLCs. The private sector may be difficult and undesirable to do so. Foreigners in the ministries, stats boards and GLCs should be released as early as possible and be replaced by citizens unless their skills are indispensable.
5. All NS men must be eligible to buy a HDB flat and not be disqualified by any stupid rulings. It is a stake for them to defend and make their sacrifices meaningful and not empty.

It is good that Tharman and the Govt is toying with this idea, to acknowledge the contributions of the pioneering generations. There is no need to pay more millions to those pioneers already having money oozing out from all their orifices.

Be grateful and thankful.

If only what You have proposed here came out from the Mouth of DPM Tharman, me am not hopeful. By now Sinkies should have heard all the beautiful and wonderful sweet words from the Rulers, especially during National Fay Celebrations. Many promises were made before.

The Question is; did they deliver what they had said and promised?

Tharman can be the PM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can only continue to dream. It's not going to happen under a PAP gahmen.

And Tharman is NOT going to be the next Prime Minister.
How do I know?
Tharman pioneered the word "inclusive".
Very, very few ministers joined Tharman in using the word "inclusive".
(one of the rare few in recent memory was ESM Goh Chok Tong).

The next PM will need to get Ah Loong's endorsement. This is the way PAP works. You can see them coming from one mile away.
Being grateful to Singaporeans who supported them in the past, is also not the PAP way.
So you and your generation are not going to get "any".

"Can the DPM stop the ever increasing so called 'minimum sums' a term invented by his govt."

Why not you ask "Can Singaporeans ever stop voting for PAP who keeps increasing the 'minimum sum' "?

Singaporeans are addicted to voting for PAP.
Just like PAP is addicted to increasing the 'minimum sum'.
So the 'minimum sum' will keep increasing.
Very simple.
Like this also don't understand.

Our respectable Supreme Courts should be able to dispense justice to the retiring Singaporeans whose withdrawal of lifelong savings being withheld again and again.

A rightous lawyer is all we need to initiate the withdrwal process of our CPF $.

You would need the partnership of Vellama and Ravi to challenge this in court. Suggest everyone cough up some money, $50 each into a fund to fight this case legally and get a court judgement.

Tharman talks about rewarding old pioneers, LKY wants to give a baby bonus equal to 2 year average salary ($110,000).

This is a fantastic amount. With the 20% from TH, every Singaporean baby can get $20,000 annually for life!

I think PAP is going to sweep 90% vote in 2016.

I do not think the DPM was referring to the lesser mortals. He was referring to the earlier generations of PAP leaders. Many of them are now aged and in hard times as they do not have the millions in pension the current leaders have. They are also bad mouthing the current leadership for forgetting the contributions of the earlier PAP leaders. Many of them were chinese educated.

$1 for you $1000 for me, $1 for you, $1000 for me.

This is a good way to distribute the nation's wealth.

Be very careful when they want to introduce thing like this. As far as past actions shown, the ruling leaders are devoided of feelings and humanities. They only do things to stay in power because they do not want people to uncover their mistakes, wrong doings, reserves losses etc.

Many countries allowed people to withdraw their pensions to retire to some cheaper countries. It makes no sense to withheld our cpf and make us stay in one of the most expensive countries in the world.

Please lah redbean, those in the "pioneering generations" did well too, and are living in a place which many other "pioneering generations" in other cuntrees envy.

>> There are many things the Govt can do to acknowledge the contributions of the pioneers

Build them a monument. Declare one day a national holiday -- "Pioneering Day"

oldhorse said is true. Wait for them to define who are the pioneers. It could be a very exclusive group, maybe 200 heads.

Definition of pioneers: People who wear white uniforms.

like this also don't know.

Will repaying the debt to the pioneering generations make the opposition any stronger and better?

Will the opposition be ready to be govt?

Then what's the point (shortform WP) ?

So why need to repay if there is no better party than PAP to be govt?

Anonymous said...

On top that 'minimum sums'which is not mini at all..

the amounts excludes:

more of our $$$$$$ in the name of medisave forcefully retained by PAP-controlled cpf accounts which debit money directly from our salary despite having reached a ripe age of 55

A possible formula to reward the pioneers. Must be above 70 years old. The payout is computed based on 10% of their last annual salary.

How's that?
